CAMARILLO, Calif. – The Ventura County Fire Cadet Program is a great work experience opportunity offered to high school students entering their senior year. During the program, fire cadet students train, study and function as a member of the assigned fire station crew.
Started in 1972, the program provides cadets with hands-on emergency medical training, work experience at fire stations, training in firefighter skills and volunteerism for the community.
To be eligible for the Cadet Program, students must:
- Attend a Ventura County high school
- Be able to work at least 10 hours per week at the station
- Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
- Fire crews expect higher grades and will require cadets to bring their report cards to the station for review.
- Complete an application and file it with your high school ROP
Students interested in applying for VCFD’s Fire Cadet Program should talk to their high school Regional Occupation Program (ROP) coordinator. Applications for VCFD’s fall 2016 program are due Wednesday, December 2, 2015.
